Part Time Position: Starting schedule will be a minimum of 10 hours a week with promising potential for growth, hours vary. Clinician will provide music therapy services and adapted lessons (piano and guitar) in our clinic as well as facilities and schools in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas. You will attend events to market services, and support and promote community partnerships. Sessions are mostly one-on-one, but several groups are also serviced. Competitive hourly rate based upon education and experience (including benefits).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Initiates and/or maintains contact with other professionals, family members, agencies, and colleagues as required by assignment.

  • Demonstrates positive response to supervision, including compliance, follow-through and feedback. 

  • Follows Anderson Music Therapy Services’ policies and procedures. 

  • Adheres to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Clinical Practice of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and Code of Professional Practice of the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).  

  • Actively engages in continuing education and professional reading. 

  • Manages time effectively and efficiently.  

  • Maintains files, work and office areas in orderly manner.  


Direct Service:

  • Designs and implements effective music therapy programs following Anderson Music Therapy Services’ and agency-specific standards.  

  • Coordinates therapy schedule efficiently.

  • Maintains ongoing relationship(s) and communicates with others involved with client(s).

  • Conducts music therapy interviews/assessments as directed and/or required by assignment. 

  • Prepares music therapy session plans, documentation, and materials with detail and quality required. 

  • Schedules and attends consultations with new or prospective clients. 

  • Demonstrates musicality, creativity, and musical knowledge in design and implementation of sessions.

  • Designs and applies creative solutions to challenges in therapy, resulting in appropriate and effective therapeutic plans in a timely fashion.

  • Accepts other assignments and attends regularly occurring and scheduled events as requested by the director of Anderson Music Therapy Services, LLC.




Minimum requirement: Bachelors Degree in Music Therapy. Masters Degree preferred.  


Qualifications: Individual must be a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) or must pass the Certification Examination within the first three months of employment; experience working with children and youth with disabilities; possess excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and musical skills; be an independent and self-driven worker; be committed to a person-centered, developmental, evidence-based approach; have a desire and willingness to grow; have a valid driver’s license and access to a car in order to drive to work sites; be willing to drive up to an hour to client sessions; personally adhere to all established personnel policies and practices of Anderson Music Therapy Services; and encourage a respectful, healthy, and productive work environment for the staff, clients, families, and volunteers.

  • You are not confident in improvising and making music "on the spot"
